4-23 HOUSE COMMITTEE MARKS UP GREEN BUILDING Bill

The House Financial Services Committee yesterday approved a bill to encourage green building and energy efficiency in housing and other buildings (H.R. 2336). The green building measure would create a residential energy efficiency block grant program to finance improvements to single-family and multifamily housing, provide incentives for new and existing HUD-financed structures to meet or exceed minimum energy efficiency standards, direct HUD to establish a four-year, 50,000-unit demonstration program on the cost‑effectiveness of meeting energy efficiency standards, and encourage FHA to finance at least 50,000 energy-efficient mortgages by December 31, 2012.
